Enrollment Guide (Android Enterprise)
Introduction
This guide describes how to enroll an Android scanner in MobiControl.
If the device is brand new and has never been used before, it might not be required to perform the Factory Reset.
You can thus skip the first part about Factory Reset and go straight to Enrollment.
Factory Reset
This section outlines the steps required to perform a factory reset on a scanner.
There are two approaches, one for manual factory reset and one specifically for Zebra devices.
Manual Factory Reset
You will need to go through the following steps (see pictures for reference):
- Go to Settings
- Click on System
- Click on Advanced
- Click on Reset options
- Click on Erase all data (factory reset) - it is important that you do not select any "enterprise reset" option.
- Click on Erase all data
The scanner is now ready to be enrolled in MobiControl, as described in the following section.
Zebra QR code factory reset
Zebra scanners have an app called “Stage Now” pre-installed on them.
To initiate the factory reset, simply open the “Stage Now” app and scan this barcode:
The scanner is now ready to be enrolled in MobiControl, as described in the section below.
Enroll The Scanner In MobiControl
This section outlines how to enroll a scanner into the device management system MobiControl, which can be done on either a brand-new scanner that has not been used before or an “old” scanner that has been factory reset as described in the previous section.
- Once you start the scanner, you are given the following screen to choose either option.
- Click on Lets Go
- Welcome to your Device Screen: click Set up as new
- Connect to your WIFI
- On the Copy apps & data screen, click Don't copy
- In the email, field input afw#mobicontrol and press next
- Accept that the device is allowed to install MobiControl | Android Enterprise
- MobiControl will now be installed
- Click next to set up MobiControl
- Accept that the application can monitor the device
- Open MobiControl on the scanner and enter the Enrollment ID shared on the service desk.
The device will now be configured automatically, which takes around 5 minutes. During this time, it will play different sounds that might sound a bit strange, but this is intended, and the scanner should be left alone to finish.
On some devices, you may have to give MobiControl a few extra permissions after enrollment; it will present itself like this:
Press on the Please give Notification access permission.
Then select MobiControl from the list:
Click Allow Modifying system settings:
Then click allow again here:
That will complete the steps.
Verification of Setup
Once the device is ready, you can verify the installation by performing the following steps:
- Open MobiControl on the device
- Verify that the status says Connected
The device is enrolled on MobiControl and resides in the "New Devices" folder.
Before you can use the device, a Mobile WMS license needs to be applied to it.
To get this, open a ticket on the service desk.
