Using Variants

Problem

The customer is working with variants and needs to scan the variant

Case

Customer is working with different Materials, Colors & Sizes for the same item no. Instead of creating separate item no., they use Variants

For example

Item no. 100 T-shirt could be sold in different Colors and Sizes

  • Colors: White, Blue & Red
  • Sizes: Small, Medium & Large

Item 100, T-shirt Variant: Color, White / Size, Medium = Variant Code: VT-W-M

For this specific Variant Code, the Cross Reference table is used to identify item no.:

Example on identifier/Barcode

'100-VT-W-M' / '1234567891011'

Solution: Add variant as Item Reference

Step 1: Add variants

Use your existing variants or add them.

Go to: Item Card / Actions / Item / Variants

Step 2: Add Item Reference from webclient

Go to : Cross Item Card / Related / Item / Cross Reference

Add 'Item Reference 'for each 'Variant Code'.

Step 2: Add Item Reference from mobile (alternative)

Select Item Cross Reference from the main menu.

  • Input/scan Item No.
  • Input the new Item Reference
  • Select Variant

Step 3: Scan from mobile

We have now added "47002023" to identify the White variant.

Creating a barcode with this will make mobile identify both the Item and the White Variant.

Barcode example

Since our identifier is not an EAN13, we instead use AI 91 which can be other lengths.

See Register with Encoded Barcode (GS1).

AI (91): Item Variant Barcode

  • Example: (91)47002023, for T-Shirt White (Variant Code: VT - WHITE)

How variants are shown in Mobile WMS

Example of variant shown in Displayline5 in Pick Order Lines

The description of the item variants are usually shown instead of the Item description in Displayline 3. but the variant code is displayed either in Displayline 4 or 5.

OBS: In the OrderLines, displayline 5 is not enabled by default. It requires a small change in the application.cfg to display it. You can read more about the Order Lines page here.
