Overview of App Source offers for Business Central
Tasklet Mobile WMS is available in two Business Central offers on App Source:
Get It Now – Designed for Tasklet Partners installing Mobile WMS to be used with devices managed via SOTI MobiControl. Customers using this offer are expected to work with a partner, ensuring a smooth onboarding process. Tasklet does not contact these customers directly.
Free Trial – Aimed at end customers, allowing them to install the Android Mobile WMS app from Google Play Store, connect to an Online Business Central Sandbox, and explore its features without a Tasklet Partner. Tasklet will reach out to provide guidance, as a partner may not yet be involved.
What’s the Difference Between the offers?
The Mobile WMS app in Business Central is identical across all installations. However, the Android app on the device differs slightly based on how it was installed:
Unmanaged (Google Play Store) – No customer license needed.
Managed (SOTI) – Requires a customer license from Tasklet.
The Mobile WMS backend in Business Central detects whether a device is managed or unmanaged, restricting unmanaged devices to Online Business Central Sandboxes (neither Production nor OnPrem are supported).
What is the Sandbox Configuration Guide?
The Sandbox Configuration Guide helps set up Mobile WMS in an Online Business Central Sandbox. It appears after installation if the progress window remains open, as a top-bar notification, or by searching for “Mobile WMS Sandbox Configuration Guide” or “conf guide”
This guide:
Configures Business Central by setting up a user and validating that recommended roles are in place.
Creates a required App Registration for device login, either automatically (recommended) or manually via a separate guide.
Generates a Connection Guide with three barcodes for easy connection:
App Download – Links to Mobile WMS on Google Play.
Endpoint Info – Connects the Android app to BC.
User ID – Simplifies login; users only enter a password (and MFA if required).
Keeping the Connection Guide handy (on-screen or printed) makes logging into any Online BC Sandbox quick and easy.
Can Partners Use the Free Trial and Sandbox Configuration Guide?
Yes! It’s a great tool for consultants to quickly connect a mobile device to a customer’s online sandbox with a copy of their production data! So, remember to bring a device when visiting a potential customer for quick setup and demos!
Using a Managed Device (SOTI)
Do not install Mobile WMS from Google Play, as both app versions cannot coexist.
Scan an endpoint barcode from the Connection Guide to add it to the endpoint list (appears at the bottom).
Manually select the endpoint, as the app won’t switch automatically.
Be mindful of the Application.cfg file, which is not provided by the backend for managed devices. The existing file on the device will be used, so ensure it doesn’t contain unwanted customizations.
Using an Unmanaged Device
Any supported, internet-connected device can install Mobile WMS from Google Play Store.
These devices always receive the configuration file from the backend and connect only via scanned endpoints.
Can the Configuration Guide Be Used for Production tenants?
No—but with some exceptions.
The Sandbox Configuration Guide sets up Mobile Users and Warehouse Employees quickly, without detailing changes. For Production tenants, every configuration change must be clear to ensure the customer and partner have full control. A dedicated guide for production tenants may be provided in the future, but it will be more detailed.
However, the App Registration created by the Sandbox guide can be reused for Production tenants if both tenants are in the same directory, which is typically the case.
Can I Customize the Free Trial?
Tasklet does not support Free Trial customizations unless a Tasklet Partner is involved. Customization depends on the device type:
Unmanaged Devices – Partially customizable, as the configuration file cannot be changed.
Managed Devices – Fully customizable, including modifications to the configuration file.
Both types can use the Mobile WMS API in a dependent extension, allowing some customizations and testing of dependent apps.
Why do I need an App Registration?
An App Registration in Microsoft Entra ID (formerly known as Azure AD or AAD) is like giving your app (in this case the Tasklet Mobile WMS Android app) a pass to use Microsoft's login system. It tells Entra ID, "This app is trusted, and here's how it should handle sign-ins."
When someone logs into a web service using their Microsoft account, the app registration helps:
Identify the app with a unique ID.
Allow or limit access to certain data or services.
Handle logins securely using Microsoft’s authentication system.
Without it, the app wouldn't be able to check user identities or access Microsoft services, like Business Central, safely.
Can I use the Free Trial or Configuration Guide in an OnPrem environment?
No.
