Updating the firmware on scanners can be a great idea for multiple reasons.
Getting the latest security and stability updates can solve various problems.
With the newest versions of Mobile WMS, updating firmware on devices can also be necessary.
What do I need?
You need a Dropbox link from Tasklet Support to the appropriate Android update file.
Manufacturers push out multiple updates every year. Ask Tasklet which version is best for you.
The device should be plugged into a charger since it will not update with low power.
Updating requires a stable connection to download the files, which can save considerable time if you need to update multiple devices.
If you have different device models and operating systems, carefully follow the instructions from Tasklet, as the patches are intended for specific device models and OS versions.
Device Manufactures
Click the dropdown for the manufacturer of your device to expand them and see the corresponding firmware update guide.
Open a browser and input the download link provided by Tasklet. It's recommended to follow this guide to copy-paste the link using MobiControl: How to copy and paste using RemoteControl.
Please wait for the Honeywell download to finish. It's a 1 GB+ file, so a decent connection is required.
Once the download is complete, open the HUpgrader app. In the top right corner, click on the three dots and choose the Select OTA from storage option.
The upgrade starts automatically when you tap the downloaded file, and once it reaches 100%, you get prompted to reboot the device.
Once the device starts up again, it has been updated, and it should present you with the lockdown screen.
You can validate the version in MobiControl by checking the OEM version, which should now show the updated version.

In MobiControl, select the device and run a script using the script provided by Tasklet on the ticket (remember to choose to run the script in legacy mode if available). Paste the script from the ticket that starts with install_system_update /sdcard/Download/...zip
When the upgrade starts, you might need to click “start.” Once it reaches 100%, you are prompted to reboot the device.

Please wait for the Datalogic download to finish. It's a 1 GB+ file, so a decent connection is required.
In Mobicontrol, run a script choosing "Legacy mode." Copy the name of the downloaded file. It can be found in the Download folder under the SD card or in the ticket.
Copy and Paste the script: sendIntent -s "intent:#Intent;component=com.datalogic.systemupdate/com.datalogic.systemupdate.SystemUpgradeService;i.action=2;S.path=/sdcard/Download/replaceThisWithTheFile.zip;i.reset=0;i.force_update=1;end"
The upgrade starts, and once it is finished, you are prompted to reboot the device. You get a message that you can work while it updates, but we don't recommend it.

Issues Upgrading the Firmware
Sometimes, a download fails for various reasons.
Please validate the connection and try again.
If the update still fails, ask for assistance on the ticket.
OS upgrade
Upgrading a scanner to a newer OS version can be a decent idea but is often unnecessary.
It's a more significant change and not something to do without good reason.
Tasklet Mobile WMS does not require the latest and greatest Android OS, and we suggest using a well-tested version that still receives security updates.
The newer version might have additional functionality, which you cannot use but still requires more from the scanner's hardware.
You likely only want to upgrade the OS version when the device's version no longer gets security patches, and then the scanner can handle the upgrade.
Ask Tasklet for advice on this if needed.
Battery Unauthorized - Honeywell Specific
Honeywell has switched battery manufacturers a few times, which can result in “Battery Unauthorized” appearing as an error in the bottom right corner of the screen when newer batteries are inserted into an older device.
This issue can easily be fixed by updating the scanner's firmware to the newest version of the current OS.
If you encounter this issue, please contact the Service Desk. Our team will help you update the scanner to a compatible version.
