Pick Order Lines

When a Pick order is selected from the list of orders available to process, information needed to process this one order is downloaded to the mobile device.

Downloading to the mobile device allows for goods movements to be processed in areas with poor or no wireless network coverage, e.g. inside a container, at remote outdoor locations, or other.

This screen shows the order lines for the selected order.

The main work process is:

  1. Scan one of the items to pick
  2. The corresponding order line is selected
  3. Register values on the order line
    • Location
    • Batch number
    • Serial number
    • Quantity

Selecting an order line

The fastest and most reliable way to select an order line is to scan the barcode of an item. If a barcode is not available or unreadable/damaged, you can manually double-tap an order line at the mobile touchscreen to start the registration process for that order line.

Entering location

If the storage dimension for the item is active in <Location> the mobile device will ask you to enter this information for the order line.

You must scan / enter the value before you can proceed. If you cannot scan a barcode to register the value it is possible to click the barcode symbol to enter the value manually.

In the standard configuration the mobile device will compare the registered location with the value suggested on the order line. If another value is entered the mobile device will display a warning message to you before the new value is used (this behavior can be changed between <None>, <Warn>, <Block>). See Application Config File – Validation for further in-depth information.

Online validation

The Mobile WMS can be setup to be always online during order processing. This will allow for real-time validation of scanned locations, tracking information (serial numbers etc.) and more – but at the expense of possible timeouts and a worse user experience if poor network coverage is common. However, business requirements / end-user customizations may require you to be always-online. Also, if wireless network coverage is indeed stable everywhere, being always-online is usually advantageous and with no drawbacks.

Registering batch numbers

If the storage dimension for the item on the order line is active in <Batch number> then the mobile device will ask you to enter a batch number. You can either scan or manually register the batch number.

If Dynamics AX/365FO has reserved a specific batch number, the mobile device expects you to enter that.

Register serial numbers

If the storage dimension for the item on the order line is active in <Serial number> then the mobile device

You can either scan or manually register the serial number. When serial numbers are registered you are not allowed to enter a quantity since a serial number is equal to a quantity of one. When a serial number is registered the quantity is automatically incremented by one.
