Picking, Packing, Staging and Shipping - Different Ways of Picking
Available in Mobile WMS from version 3.12 for Dynamics AX/365FO
Picking
There are different ways of picking when using Mobile WMS.
- Regular - no packing, staging and shipping
Picking and Outbound License Plate
Use Outbound License Plates to enable options to pack, stage and ship.
This covers many scenarios, and you can find a description of the alternatives here:

Packing Station
You can pick and pack into a two-step process. First you begin picking all items to the cart and then send them to the packing station. From the packing station you can make detailed packaging and finalize the outbound license plates.
The process is started by attaching a picking list to a cart. See more here: Attach Picking List to Cart
- You can open Mobile WMS picking menu, select a picking route or a BOM picking list and click on the menu to attach it to an empty cart
- You can open an empty cart and scan a picking list or a BOM picking list to attach it to the cart
Once the attachment has been done, then you begin to load items onto the cart.
After completed loading of items to the cart, you click on the menu to unload items to a packing station.
Once the items are in the packing station you begin to scan items into outbound license plates.
Staging
If you are comfortable with the detailed packing from the packing station you can skip the staging step. You need to setup a parameter to skip this step and continue with the final shipping stage.

Shipping
The final step is to confirm each outbound license plates. If you are using a 3rd party shipping system to book freight and print labels, then this step is the natural place to make that integration.

Mobile WMS Pick, Pack and Ship can be setup in many ways, so please be aware that the described process below, covers only one specific process. Other processes are possible.
In the example here we have many orders with only a few items on each order. When many of the same item are picked, it is an advantage to pick them in bulk and then successive pack them items into individual containers on the packing station.
Create Consolidated Picking List

We have these orders:
Order A with 1 item O
Order B with 1 item O and 1 item P
Order C with 1 item P
The 3 orders has 3 different addresses. When we pack the items we should be packing them into 3 containers, one for each destination.
Totally we pick 2 items and 4 pcs.
Attach Picking List to a Cart
On the mobile device we find the consolidated picking list "00165" and attach it to an empty cart by clicking on the button "Attach to Cart". More details about attaching picking list to cart is found here.
By attaching the picking list to a cart, you get an accumulated list of items, that is required to fulfill the 3 orders.
Item P = 2 pcs
Item O = 2 pcs
After all items have been picked, you click "Unload Cart" to send the items to a packing station by your choice.
Begin Packing
Open packing stations and select the packing station you just have delivered the items to.
Once you have opened the packing station, you get a list of active picking list attached to this packing station. There is no limit to how many active picking lists a packing station can handle. This is up to the mobile device users.
Then select the picking list you want to begin packing.
We can see at the top of the screen that we have 3 sub lists. that correspond with our 3 orders. The list of items is 4, which corresponds to our 4 picking list lines.
We have containers with outbound license plate barcodes on.
Then start to scan the first item you pick up, then you confirm which outbound license plate you place the item into and finally confirm the quantity. In this case we only need to pick 1 pcs of item O.
If you scan item O again then this can not go into the same outbound license plate as the first item O was put into because it is on a different destination. So we have quality insurance that the items are picked and sent to the correct destinations.
Then we have packed 2 pcs of item O, we begin to pack item P. Scan item O and follow workflow instructions on the mobile device.
Now that we have registered 3 outbound license plates, we can see what happens when we scan the last item. This line should be packed together with one of the item O containers.
On the outbound license plate step we are presented with the "olp12" and we confirm this by scanning the correct container and confirm the quantity and finally put the item P here.
It is possible to scan another unused outbound license plate if you cannot fit all items into one container.
This was the last line and we are prompted to complete the registration. We choose "yes". By now the picking lists are updated with the registrations.
Shipping
Now that all outbound license plates has been packed, we can confirm that they are ready to be shipped. You might require a shipping label and Mobile WMS Shipping is ready for an integration to a 3rd party vendor.
This step is easily done by scan the outbound license plate id, this marks the id. A customization example here could be that you scan the id and you confirm a request to print a freight label.
But out of the box with Mobile WMS we mark the id, and once we have marked all the relevant id's we click on the "Ship now" button.
Shipment has completed.
