ISV Device CAL

Background Information

The ISV Device CAL is a special license type offered by Microsoft to ISVs who have a mobile solution which is Certified for Microsoft Dynamics (CfMD). The following restrictions apply:

• Can only be used to perform warehousing operations.
• Can only be used on mobile devices with built-in barcode scanners and no cellular capabilities.

 The ISV Device CAL is used to license the mobile device instead of a user. The ISV Device CAL can do the same as a full user. It is NOT a Limited User CAL. It is typically used in warehouse scenarios where the users only need access to Dynamics NAV through the mobile device running the Mobile WMS client.

How to use the license

When the ISV Device CAL has been added to the customer license, it requires a little extra configuration than for other users. The steps are:

1. Set the license type to "Device Only User"
2. Register the devices used and set the "Device Type" to "ISV"

 Use the 2 highlighted setup pages from Dynamics NAV to perform the configuration.

Configure the user

When the user operates the mobile device using the Mobile WMS client, it uses the Dynamics NAV web services to communicate with Dynamics NAV.

When the user is set up as a "Device Only User" AND there is a "Device" registered with "Device Type" set to ISV, Dynamics NAV will use one of the "ISV Device CAL" licenses.

Registering the mobile devices

After setting the user as "Device Only User" there must be a device available. This is set up in the "Devices" page found here: /Departments/Administration/IT Administration/General/Devices

The number of devices registered must match the number of "ISV Device CALs" in the license.

• Set the "Device Type to ISV
• Enable the device.
• Get the "MAC address" and "Name" from MobiControl
