License Plate Setup

How to setup license plates in Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations?
If your warehouse setup is best suited for WMS (the more simple warehouse management system) and not for warehouse management (the advanced warehouse) and you still require license plates, then you can actually switch them on. Here is the guide to setup license plates for WMS. Once this is setup and you use Mobile WMS you can use license plates in your warehouse processes.
Step-by-step guide
There are two major tick marks to enable warehouse management. We only need the one on storage dimensions.
- Storage dimensions
- Warehouse
- Released product
1. Storage dimensions
Make sure this tick mark is set to 'Yes'. See on below screenshot marked with a red square box. Once activated your dimensions for 'License Plate' and 'Inventory status' is active.
2. Warehouse
Make sure this tick mark is NOT set to 'Yes'. See on below screenshot marked with a red square box. If you use a warehouse with warehouse management enabled, then you run the full-blown warehouse management.
Highlighted in yellow we see the default location for receipts in that particular warehouse. This is used by Mobile WMS for when you put items on a license plate that has never been used. A never used license plate has no location attached to it, hence we use this default receipt location.
3. Released product
Your released product must have a storage dimension with the license plates enabled.
Another requirement is the 'Reservation hierarchy'. This also must be set.
Mobile WMS is not using any of the warehouse management functions, but you can find more information about reservation hierarchy here:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/supply-chain/warehousing/warehouse-configuration
Unit sequence group must also be set on the released product.
Depending on which unit sequence group you select you might need to add a unit conversion to the product. Navigate from the released product to 'Product/Setup/Unit conversions' to add the required unit conversion.
