Mobile WMS
In 99.9 % of all cases the terminals running the Mobile WMS app is on a wireless Wireless network (WIFI or Mobile network like 4G/LTE).
The following sections will outline the things you need to consider in both these setups.
Using a Wireless Network
...
As we are not transferring big amounts of data between the Mobile Device and the ERP system, connectivity is more important than throughput of data.
...
We advise that you only use the 2.4 Ghz GHz wireless band as this gives a more stable connection between the mobile device and the ERP system. The range (coverage) of 2.4 Ghz GHz is also better that 5 Ghzthan 5 GHz which should require less access points in the warehouse.
The only other requirement is that the devices can connect to the endpoint of the ERP system from the network they are on. This typically requires that one or more ports are opened in the firewall of the server that is hosting the web service.
Using 4G/LTE
It is important that the devices can connect to the endpoint of the ERP system from the cellular network.
This will work out of the box in a cloud setup like Business Central Cloud or similar, but if you are implementing Mobile WMS in an on premise scenario you need to consider these options:
- Using VPN to connect to the local ressource
- Opening the network for external access to a local ressource
Whether you select option 1 or 2 is up to you and what makes sence in your scenario.
